Application: Harvest for All Entry |
American Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) are helping feed hungry people across the United States through a partnership with Feeding America (formerly named America’s Second Harvest). The Illinois Hunger Coalition officials report more than 1.5 million Illinois citizens go hungry each year, and children make up half of this number. According to Illinois Food Bank officials, supplies accumulated during the holiday season are typically depleted by mid-June; therefore, summer and early fall months are critical for local food banks, pantries, and shelters.
The Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leader Committee challenges you to help make a difference and feed the need by organizing a “Harvest for All” effort in your local community and getting involved in helping meet the needs of your local food banks. There are several ways your FFA chapter can contribute to the Harvest for All Campaign, and we urge your local chapter to do their part to help fight hunger in Illinois. We encourage you to be creative in organizing an activity. Donations from your chapter can help save a person from going to bed hungry.
The 2009-2010 Illinois Association FFA Harvest for All Food Drive runs from May 1, 2009 through April 30, 2010 with reports due to the Young Leader Department at Illinois Farm Bureau by May 3, 2010. For every 10 pounds of food, 10 dollars, and 1 hour of volunteer time, your FFA chapter earns one point, and the top five chapters in the state will earn cash to do with as they please. The top 5 chapters will be recognized at the Illinois State FFA Convention as well as the section winners. The Harvest for All entry form can be downloaded here. |
